Child Benefit Income Requirements for ECO4 Grants

The government has unveiled ECO4, the fourth phase of its ECO energy efficiency programme. This next phase will provide grants for insulation, heating, and other energy-saving measures for families. If you just receive Child Benefit, you must, however, satisfy Child Benefit income standards in order to be eligible for these funds. We will outline these conditions in this blog post, along with instructions on how to submit an application for a grant.

What are the Child Benefit income requirements?
If Child Benefit is the only benefit you receive, your household will need to have earned less than the amounts below.

Single parents
1 Child – £19,900
2 Children – £24,800
3 Children – £29,600
4+ Children – £34,500

Parents in a couple
1 Child – £27,500
2 Children – £32,300
3 Children – £37,200
4+ Children – £42,000
(figures updated to Ofgem’s Administration Consultation released on 13 June 2022) You’ll need to provide evidence such as payslips and bank account records to support your application.

Eligibility Criteria

If you or anyone in your household receives any of the following benefits, then you will be automatically eligible for an ECO grant:

  •  Child Tax Credit
  •  Child Benefit
  •  Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) – Income Based
  •  Housing Benefit – new eligible benefit
  •  Income Support
  •  Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) – Income Based
  •  Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  •  Pension Credit Savings Credit – new eligible benefit
  • Working Tax Credit
  •  Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) – Income Based
  •  Universal Credit

You must show proof that you—or a member of your household—received the benefit in order to be eligible for a grant. If you receive one of these benefits, there are no income requirements except child benefit.
